Tinctures & Treats : 2 Forms of CBD Treatments for Pets

Hemp-based CBD products for pets come in two primary forms : Tinctures and Treats.  Tinctures are oil extracts administered by dropper either on your dog’s food or directly onto their tongue. Treats are, of course, edible snacks you can give them that offer the effects of CBD ingestion.

Inhalation methods like smoking or vaporizers are NEVER to be used with pets, as this can damage their lungs.  Similarly, edibles designed for humans are not necessarily safe for pets. It’s important to only give your pet a CBD product designed specifically for their species. 

Administering CBD Products to Your Pet

General CBD Dose for Pets

• 0.5 to 5 mg of CBD per 10 pounds of body weight is the approved way to gauge dosage
• This can be administered twice daily
• Start slow with a low dose and gradually increase the dose every 5-7 days

Generally lower doses are plenty effective for most pets, but depending on the situation you may want to increase to higher amounts.  If you notice your pet exhibiting extreme behavioral changes after taking CBD, reduce the dosage and consult a veterinarian or CBD specialist.
